Supporting Sustainable Innovation in Construction
As countries across the world strive to reduce their environmental impact, new legislation is having a profound impact on the Building & Construction industry. A key example is the European Green Deal, which will require the industry to incorporate energy and resource efficiency, reconsider product waste and recycling methods, explore potential carbon reduction goals, and promote circularity throughout the lifecycle of buildings.
In the wake of increasing market demand for sustainable solutions, companies are looking for ways to meet performance and regulation requirements. Trinseo commercialized STYRON X-TECH™ 4660 Polystyrene Resins for Extruded Polystyrene (XPS) to help meet this pressing need.

STYRON X-TECH™ helps reduce material consumption in foam insulation boards thanks to its patented cross-linked polystyrene technology. This resin offers the same reliability and performance as previous resin formulations with a greater sustainability advantage.
Extruded polystyrene insulation boards rely on a closed cell foam structure for long-term durability and rigidity. Trinseo’s STYRON X-TECH™ 4660 Polystyrene Resin introduces increased melt strength to enhance these performance properties while allowing for raw material and cost savings. Additionally, the resin boasts excellent compression strength. Several Trinseo partners have validated the improved sustainability of STYRON X-TECH™ 4660 Polystyrene Resin as they reduced the weight of the insulation board by approximately five percent, reducing carbon emissions by a corresponding amount.
As a leading solutions provider, Trinseo understands the critical need to incorporate sustainable product offerings and recognizes polystyrene’s recyclability and circularity potential. Our STYRON X-TECH™ 4660 Polystyrene Resin serves a growing demand for innovative and sustainable materials while assisting Trinseo customers in meeting environmental regulations.
