Trinseo’s approach to operations helps our customers bring their ideas to life in smarter, more sustainable ways.
We’re expanding our decarbonization strategy by developing sustainable supply chains and procurement practices that can help minimize our environmental impact. In 2023, we established a management system to track our Scope 3 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions baseline data and conducted an internal Scope 3 inventory according to GHG protocol guidelines, with plans to engage a third party to validate our calculations.
We also implemented a Scope 3 supplier engagement program with the launch of the Trinseo Sustainability Academy. Through this initiative, we gain insights into the sustainable operations of our suppliers and provide them with educational webinars to share decarbonization best practices.
You can find more information about our sustainable operations, including our supply chain and procurement practices, in our 2024 Sustainability Report.
Progress on Our Supplier Responsibility Goals
Highlights from Our 2024 Sustainability Report
Supply Chain & Procurement
Sustainability goes beyond the composition of our solutions; it includes how they are processed throughout the value chain. In 2023, we launched a formal Scope 3 GHG emissions program to increase the maturity of our sustainable procurement activities and support our journey to reach our 2030 Sustainability Goals.
PMMA Depolymerization and PC Dissolution
As a leader in sustainable solutions, we are reimagining recycling with our depolymerization and dissolution plants. Trinseo inaugurated its polycarbonate (PC) dissolution pilot facility in Terneuzen, the Netherlands. Additionally, we announced our depolymerization facility for polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) recycling at our Rho, Italy site.
Operation Clean Sweep®
We’re proud to be a long-standing and active member of Operation Clean Sweep® (OCS), a plastics industry association effort to reduce plastic pellets in the environment. In 2023, we introduced two new Trinseo facilities to the European OCS program and completed internal gap assessments at our pellet-handling sites in the region to prepare for certification.
