Trinseo MAGNUM™ Plastic Resins Used in Ford Fusion Door Trims to Improve Car Quality

Company’s product beat competition for color consistency and assembly stability

Tuesday, June 27, 2017

Tier 1 supplier International Automotive Components Group (IAC) was looking for an ABS plastic resins for the Ford Fusion in late 2012 that could provide excellent color consistency and assembly stability for the OEM.

The plastic resin material had to be suitable for the upper and lower trim of all four doors, which are either covered with leather or foam-backed vinyl. They also needed to color match molded pieces in black, beige and grey.

IAC and Ford tested Trinseo’s ABS from the MAGNUM™ product for the Ford Fusion’s doors against competitive products.

Trinseo’s MAGNUM™ 3325MT premium material was chosen because it outperformed the competition with a highly consistent color from lot to lot and also provided the required dimensional stability as well as high impact performance.
